Who does not love a good challenge? Remember when you were a kid, and you would race your best friend down the street?

"I bet I can beat you to the end of the block!" You would shout, and off you'd go, hearts pounding and legs pumping. 

Fast forward a few decades and the challenges might change, but the thrill remains. Your wife says, "I bet you can't carry all these groceries in one trip."

Without hesitation, you grab a mountain of bags, flex your muscles, and prove her wrong. 

This challenge, however, has a lot more weight to it. It's a challenge with eternal consequences, a challenge that can change lives and advance the kingdom of God.

It's the Great Commission Challenge. 

Jesus, in Matthew 28:19-20, gave us a clear mandate: "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you."

It's a call to action, a challenge to multiplication.  

But here's the twist: It's not just about individual discipleship. It's about creating disciples who can, in turn, make more disciples. It's about building a kingdom of believers who are empowered to share the gospel and transform their communities. 

It's like a game of exponential growth. One disciple can lead to two, two can lead to four, and so on. The possibilities are endless. 

Now, some might argue that this is too much to ask. They might say, "I'm just one man. What can I do?" There is some truth to that; as one man you could do some good things, but together, we could do some GREAT and ETERNAL things!   

Remember, even the smallest seed can grow into a mighty oak tree. 

So how do we accept this challenge? How do we become part of the Great Commission movement? It starts with prayer and seeking God's guidance. It involves developing a personal relationship with Jesus and growing in our faith. But it also requires us to step out of our comfort zones and share the gospel with others. 

It might mean inviting a friend to church, starting a men’s Bible study using Patros, or simply sharing your testimony. It could be as simple as offering an encouraging word or a listening ear to someone in need. 

At Service4Christ, we are in the business of discipleship and building up men in Kingdom masculinity and mobilizing them in the fight for the fatherless as Jesus commands. 

Will you accept the challenge not only to join us on September 14th at one of our Service4Christ 100 Launch Gatherings…but to bring a buddy or two with you as well? 

Together, let's embrace the challenge, and let's watch the Kingdom of God expand. 

The phrases “act like a man” and “Service4Christ” have become commonplace in our cultural vocabulary.

However, they often can come across as abrasive pejorative; and just plain rude. When someone says, “Step up and act like a man” or “Shut up and Service4Christ,” these phrases are ineffective motivators for action.

Instead, if the tone is tainted those phrases carry an underlying message of emasculation that suggests something is wrong with you, implying that men are weak or passive and somehow need to muster up enough strength to take action.  

Yet most men are neither weak nor passive; they are simply seeking “permission” to be men. 

For us rebels who don’t need anyone’s permission, a better way to put it might be that men want “authorization” to be the men they were designed to be.  

For men to be fully mobilized into all that God has called them to be they require two things; authorization and affirmation.  

To simplify it even more for us “Mavericks,” all we need is a thumbs-up and a salute from the flight deck, signaling that we are cleared for takeoff. Then we will take off on the highway to the danger zone fueled by ferocious faith (that’s a nod to the movie Top Gun for those who didn’t catch it.)  

When a man receives a revelation that authorization has been granted by God Almighty Himself and that the Father affirms him just as He did Christ when Father God declared “This is my Son; with whom I am well pleased” when a man truly grasps this; he will turn the world upside down for good and impact countless lives for eternity. 

1 Corinthians 16:13-14 exhorts us: “Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.” 

We can only act like men, be strong, and stand firm in the faith when we understand that we are called and commissioned for these purposes. Our Father in Heaven has given us the authority to fulfill the Great Commission.

When Jesus declared in Matthew 28 to “Go into all the world and make disciples,” He gave us a mandate and the authorization to carry out this Great Commission. This transforms our mandate into a co-mission, where we labor alongside God and others in the epic battle for the souls of humankind. 

Men of God, it’s GO TIME! It’s time to rise, take action, and spread the message of hope; because you are authorized and affirmed to do just that.

Consider this your official thumbs-up. Let’s move forward with strength and purpose—together, we’ll change the world. 

The now-infamous line penned by poet and preacher John Donne some 400 years ago echoes true today with a strong resonance. Yet, there remains a pervasive myth that men are to be lone wolves, rugged, stoic individuals who thrive in isolation. Nothing could be further from the truth. The reality is all men are wired for connection. Men crave brotherhood, the camaraderie of shared experiences, and the support of like-minded comrades to walk this journey called life with. All men need a band of brothers to fight the good fight with!   

John Donne penned another powerful line, often overshadowed by its more famous counterpart: "Because I am involved in mankind." This statement encapsulates the essence of community, a shift from isolation to involvement. Isolation is a breeding ground for weakness and self-absorption. When men retreat into isolation, focusing on serving only themselves, they reside in the dangerous land of loneliness; a place they were never designed to live.  

Men who depart that desolate land of isolation and discover their band of brothers, crew, and squad; soon realize the power of the team dynamic. They find out that together; we can overcome and accomplish so much more than we ever could alone.   

Together we can change the world 

While Batman and Robin undoubtedly formed a dynamic duo, the Guardians of the Galaxy grasp the true power of the team dynamic; as they united in the fight to guard the galaxy. Although each Guardian was unique, they cultivated an unbreakable bond as they fought a common adversary.  As you discover, your band of brothers; consider more than just grabbing a bite to eat together or watching a football game; consider how your crew can get involved with mankind and change it for the good. 

Get involved with mankind 

Consider this your challenge to get involved in another man’s life; to become interested and intentional in knowing what makes him tick; and you may find you have more in common than you could imagine. You may find he shares many of the same struggles and values as you do.  

Guilt-Free Time  

Yes, we know you have many responsibilities. Still, there is no need to feel guilty about carving out some quality “Bro Time” with your band of brothers as investing in these relationships is an investment in your life, as well as theirs.  

So as the sizzle from the summer sun settles the crisp autumn air rolls in and the school year and football season kicks off, it is the perfect time to hit the reset button on our lives.  

This seasonal change is the perfect time to build stronger connections with others.  

Whether it is simply grabbing a coffee with a good buddy taking the plunge to join a men's group at your local church or even linking up with your Service4Christ 100 chapter; prioritize these connections as they are vital.  

There are many easy plug-and-play opportunities to build community; as they can be found in unexpected places. Perhaps your fantasy football league has evolved into more than just a weekly competition. Those shared laughs and friendly rivalries can be the foundation for deeper bonds. So, take advantage of your existing connections and explore ways to strengthen them; all guilt-free; because you and they need it!  

Let us remember what the Bible encourages us to do in the context of the community from Hebrews 10: 24-25: Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing but encouraging one another. 

Let us shatter the myth of the solitary isolated man. It is time to embrace the power of the brotherhood and to find your squad to do life with and your life will be all the richer for it and together we could indeed very well change the world; TOGETHER!

A culture of division, strife, and contempt has taken root. It's as if we're living in a modern-day Wild West, where hostility reigns and civility is a fading echo.  

Just as the American frontier was a time of rapid change, uncertainty, and often, conflict, so is our current cultural landscape. The term "Wild West" evokes images of showdowns and violence, yet historians argue that reality is often less dramatic than folklore suggests.  

American folklore paints a vivid picture of the Wild West as a place of constant conflict. Dusty dirt roads outside of saloons were often imagined as stages for dramatic showdowns, where cowboys, armed with their trusty pistols, aka "peacemakers," would settle disputes with deadly force. The peacemaker, as it was so fondly nicknamed, was officially known as the Colt Single Action Army revolver handgun, and it sought to handle conflict using only one attribute; force.  

Future historians may characterize our era as a time of great upheaval and division—indeed, a wild time of contention.  

But all this can change.  

As followers of Christ, we are called to rewrite history and become history makers by being “peacemakers” in our own right, wherever we may go. Jesus declared in Matthew 5:9, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.”  

Patros are Peacemakers. 

God is looking for men who will answer the clarion call to be counterculture, to be a strong voice addressing the culture. These men’s lives lead to peace, and when they enter a room, they offer a strong yet calming presence.  

A Patros is a father-like figure who is a Godly example of how to manage conflict; he does not display pride or use rage to get his point across; he models patience and a reasonable understanding; he controls his emotions and leads with love. His gentle spirit and strong demeanor are evident in all he encounters.  

The Apostle Paul shares the pattern of being a peacemaker in Philippians 4:5-9; he reminds us to: Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.  Whatever you have learned, received, or heard from me, or seen in me, put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you. 

Our world desperately needs peacemakers. Men who step up to the challenge to become a catalyst for cultural change by transforming interactions at home, at work, and within our communities. Men who will put into practice peace in their everyday lives will truly help to rewrite history.  

Imagine a world where people are more concerned with mending fences than drawing lines in the sand. Where we seek to understand rather than condemn. Where we offer a helping hand instead of a hateful glare. It's a tall order, we know, but it's possible.  

We need men to Service4Christ and be Patros—fathers, mentors, and leaders. Not the kind who pushes people around, but the kind who serves, protects, and guides. Men who are strong but gentle; wise yet humble; and full of God’s grace.  

It's time to disarm the world with kindness and gentleness. To replace anger with understanding. To trade rage for radical peace. To become peacemakers in a world that's lost its way.  

Peace is true power.  

Let's be the change in the culture we want to see. Let's holster our pride and draw on our faith. Let's become the peacemakers this world so greatly needs. This is our call to action.

Currently, over 50% of children born to women under 30 do not have a father present in the home. Additionally, 80% of children in single-parent households live with their mothers.

This means children in the U.S. are more likely to grow up without a biological, step, or adoptive father figure than anywhere else in the world.

Because of this harsh reality, our mission with Patros is to empower men to bridge this gap and disciple the next generation in accordance with Jesus' command to support the fatherless.

You’ve probably already seen the promos on your social media for Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot . . . and if you have, you know it’s going to be good!

Inspired by the powerful true story, Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot, follows Donna and Reverend Martin as they ignite a fire in the hearts of their rural church to embrace kids in the foster system that nobody else would take. By doing the impossible–adopting 77 children–this East Texas community proved that, with real, determined love, the battle for America’s most vulnerable can be won.

Our team had the privilege of screening this movie before it hit theaters so trust us when we say, “You don’t want to miss this!”  More than just an excellent film, Sound of Hope beautifully portrays the power of the Gospel and the eternal, Kingdom impact a local church can have on the lives of fatherless children in their community.

Let’s get the word out about how Jesus and His followers care for the fatherless!

Let's talk straight. Dads (and moms, of course) are responsible for discipling their children.

Period.

Not the church, their friends, or even that catchy Christian rock song on repeat (though those can be helpful tools!).

The Bible is clear: "Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord." (Ephesians 6:4). You, Dad, are the spiritual leader in your home.

Now, before you feel overwhelmed, hear this: Someone or something is already filling the discipleship gap in your children's lives. Do you want it to be social media or the latest trends, or do you want to guide them towards a strong foundation in faith?

Here's the good news:

1. It's Never Too Late: Maybe you haven't been as involved as you'd like. Every day is a new opportunity. Start small, with a simple prayer before dinner or reading a short Bible story together.

2. Be Present: Your kids don't need a perfectly crafted sermon. They need you. Show up for them, listen to them, and let them see your faith in action.

3. Consistency is Key: Building a strong foundation takes time. Don't get discouraged if every day isn't perfect. Just keep showing up, keep loving your family, and keep pointing them towards God.

Think about it this way: Remember that awkward first bike ride? You were there, wobbly and unsure, but you guided them because you loved them. Discipling your kids is no different. You've got this, Dad!

Did you know there are 71 million fathers in the United States and roughly 1.6 billion worldwide?

This past week I was one of 12 fathers who met in our nation’s Capitol to talk about those 1.6 billion fathers and how to rally them to love their children the way God loves us.

But these weren’t just any fathers…these were fathers who are each leading fatherhood ministries and/or pastoring across the globe. It was an intense time of dreaming, sharing, vulnerability, assessing, questioning, and affirming. While the methodology might be different, the core belief was the same – fathers matter.

At Service4Christ, we state this belief in the following way, a way that has been our guiding “WHY” for the last decade: 

We believe children benefit in every measurable way by the presence of a loving, committed father in the home.

Yet the fatherless rate in the United States now sits at an all-time high – nearly 1 in 4 children grow up without a father in the home, or roughly 25 million.

I have to tell you though, what struck me about the leaders with whom I met was the alignment we had around two areas:

1. We all agreed that our Abba Father is the only hope for curbing fatherlessness.

2. We all agreed that pastors must lead us out of the crisis, many of whom are living with unresolved wounds from an earthly father.

Most likely you’re not a pastor. But there’s a high likelihood that your earthly father didn’t meet all your expectations. Maybe he was the silent strong type or would explode in anger. Perhaps he was superficial and distant or not present at all. Maybe he was an amazing man, but you still struggle with forgiving him for that one thing he did or your inability to get over his flaws.

Whatever the case, know you’re not alone. Nearly every man at this Summit, other leaders on fatherhood, had wounds from an earthly father.

And…

We have a Father in Heaven who never lets us down and exceeds every expectation we’ve ever had. Most importantly, He LOVES us desperately.

At the end of our time, one of the leaders who runs a fatherhood initiative in Washington state told the following story:

I had set up a booth for a fatherhood initiative we run and was recruiting fathers to the program. A group of teens made a beeline for my table and a 15-year-old girl’s first words to me were, “Is this where I come to get a father?” After learning of this fatherless daughter’s situation and asking to pray for her, the girl mentioned, “Well God can’t love me because I’m gay.” I looked at her lovingly and said, “You’re an image bearer of God…I assure you He loves you.” She sat there for a second, silent, and then walked away into the night.

Isn’t this what all of us need? To be assured and affirmed of a heavenly Father’s love? Yes God doesn’t love our actions all the time. But there is never a time when He doesn’t love His image bearer. Good fathers don’t ever put conditions on their love for their children…how much more is a perfect heavenly Father?

Sunday is Father’s Day. A day for neckties and beef jerky sticks from your megachurch and the reward of getting the entire day to exhaust yourself with your kids just in time to catch the end of the U.S. Open. Probably a very busy day.

Know this. Whatever shortcomings you have, whatever feelings of inadequacy you face, whatever ghosts of “fatherhood past” you’re chasing, or demons that seemingly lurk around every corner…whatever it is…know this:

YOUR ABBA FATHER IN HEAVEN LOVES YOU.

If we are to rid the world of the scrouge of fatherlessness, the very first step we all must take is to truly accept the love of a heavenly Father. Until then, all is vanity.

God loves you, Dad. And He wants you in His family. Believe it. Receive it.

For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.

John 3:16

For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship.[a] And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”

Romans 8:14-15

Might sound weird at first and chances are you feel a little bit uncomfortable right now. 

But it’s true.  Guys need to hear words of encouragement just as much as women do.  And no, it doesn’t have to be awkward! 

Interestingly, the root of the word “encouragement” means to make someone strong or to give courage and confidence. 

So, the friend of yours, who is feeling discouraged or defeated in his job, as a husband, or as a dad, the guy the Lord just put on your mind . . . text him.  Right now.  Seriously!  Stop reading this email and shoot him a text. 

We often underestimate how a simple message like, “Hey man. Love you. You’re awesome. Thanks for being in my life.,” can transform someone’s day, week, or even their outlook on life. And that is just one text. 

It’s no wonder Paul commended followers of Jesus to encourage and edify each other! 

Imagine the cumulative effect if men committed to building each other up in the Lord?!?!

So next time God places a friend on your mind . . . text him!  Be the friend that makes men around him stronger, more confident, and full of courage. 

June is around the corner and we are going all out for fathers!

Everyone gets to celebrate dad on Father’s Day, but the State of Florida has officially recognized June as Responsible Fatherhood Month and has a challenge for all the dads out there. Whether or not you live in Florida, this is a phenomenal opportunity to raise the optic of the need for strong and compassionate fathers. Or as one father has said it, “Tough and tender” fathers!

Here’s how you can help:

• Make your own How I Dad Challenge video and post it on your favorite social media channel. It’s a simple 15-30-second video that is supposed to be light-hearted and fun, and shares how you go about trying to be the best dad you can be!

• Follow the Father First social media handle of your choice (@FatherFirstFl) and share the initiative. Use the hashtag #HowIDadChallenge to search for videos to share. The handles are:

Let’s go, Dads!

"Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.” - James 1:27

We are committed to seeing a father for every child come to fruition.

If you don’t know by now, May is Foster Care Awareness Month, a time dedicated to recognizing the role foster care plays in the lives of many children and families. While the foster care system often emphasizes safety and stability for children in crisis, it also holds the promise of transformative reunification, where children can return to their biological families under healthier, more supportive conditions. Reunification represents hope and resilience, showing that life change is possible even in the most challenging circumstances.

Reunification is not just a legal process; reunification is a profound emotional and psychological journey for both children and parents. It requires intensive support, dedication, and sometimes significant time to address the underlying issues that led to separation. Yet, when achieved, reunification is a testament to the power of love, perseverance, and the human capacity for change.

Take Diego, for instance, who lost his two young daughters to the system of care back in October of last year.

Little did he know that when he felt like all parties involved were against him, he would find an ally in our Fatherhood team. With James 1:27 in mind, no stone would be unturned when it came to getting his children back.

Typical case plans run anywhere from a year to multiple years depending on the motivation on the father’s end and the support system they have in their corner. In this particular case, Diego had no support and did not trust the system as it currently stands.

In steps, our Fatherhood Engagement Specialist worked with Diego, sat with him, listened to him, walked alongside him, and guided him in the right direction.

After a lengthy trial and meeting all case plan tasks, Diego was reunified with his daughters on May 3rd, 2024. 

Stories like Diego's highlight the profound impact of reunification in the foster care system.

Although the process sees its fair share of setbacks, roadblocks, and heartaches, the journey to reunification can provide both fathers and children with a sense of identity, belonging, and continuity, which are crucial for their emotional and psychological well-being.

For fathers, it offers a second chance to rebuild their lives and relationships, reinforcing the belief that they can overcome adversity. 

Reunification serves as a beacon of hope, demonstrating that even in the face of hardship, families can heal and reunite, stronger and more resilient than before.

In a society plagued by the epidemic of fatherlessness, the essence of love and its expression often finds itself in a labyrinth of misconceptions. We’re surrounded by broken families, fractured relationships, and a generation yearning for guidance and affection. But amidst this chaos, a beacon of hope emerges from the timeless wisdom of Biblical principles, shedding light on how our actions convey love to others, particularly in the absence of paternal influence.

The Bible, a reservoir of divine teachings, illuminates the intricate language of love through various narratives and teachings. One fundamental truth it underscores is that love is not merely confined to verbal affirmations but is vividly expressed through our deeds and conduct. As the Apostle John eloquently states, “Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth” (1 John 3:18, ESV). This profound insight challenges us to transcend the superficiality of verbal expressions and delve deeper into the realm of tangible actions.

Did you know the average American male watches 5.8 hours of live sports each week? This seems about right given that a recent study showed 81% of men consider themselves sports fans.

The survey also revealed that football is king, with 72% identifying as football fans. And while fans watch the games for different reasons…

• 59% said football gives them an excuse to eat/drink

• 33% said they watch for their fantasy teams

• 30% said they’re checking up on their bets

…maybe the most interesting is that 83% said they enjoy football because it gives them an excuse to get together with friends and family. And chances are… even if you’re not a sports fan, it will be hard to ignore all of the pomp and circumstance around Super Bowl Sunday. The ad revenue alone for this Sunday’s game is expected to bring in over $650 million for CBS, with advertisers shelling out $7 million for a 30-second spot.

Sports. Money. Fantasy. Eating. Drinking. Betting. This is ‘Murica, right?

Trust us when we tell you that we’re not immune to the American sports machine. We like a good game with good friends just as much as the next guy. And at the same time, like the Anheuser-Busch ads of the 80’s, are we sure we “know when to say when?” At what point does our obsession with sports (and all it entails) cross over from fun to idolatry?

The reality is, that anything that competes for Christ’s undivided attention in our lives is idolatry. As Reformer John Calvin wrote in the 16th century, “Our hearts are idol-making factories.” So how do we know if we’ve made football an idol?

1. The most obvious clue is that we spend more time with football (5.8 hours/week) than we do with God. This is a simple math equation.

2. A second clue is your pocketbook. Do you bet more on games than you tithe? If so, you’re probably guilty of making football an idol.

3. Finally, do you turn to football to escape responsibilities? Responsibilities with your children, your spouse, or duties around the house? If so, you’ve made it an idol.

Hear us, fellas, we’re not saying football is the enemy. Football, like money, is agnostic. It’s neither righteous nor sinful. It’s what we do with it that counts.

This Super Bowl Sunday, here are 3 ways you can redeem your addiction to football and turn it into a positive:

1. Watch it with a kid who needs a mentor. You know them. They usually come from a single mom household, or maybe a foster family. See if you can’t arrange a get-together, order some wings, and next thing you know you’re using football for God’s glory!

2. Send a foster family a few pizzas in the first quarter. What’s it going to cost you? Even with a big family, pizza is pretty cheap and you just created a moment for that family.

3. Lastly, be on the lookout and pray for children in distress. There are nearly 28 million children worldwide trapped in human trafficking, and given this year’s Super Bowl is in Vegas, we ought to be concerned about the exploitation that is sure to occur. Only God can save them.

So enjoy the game. Have some fun. Just remember that we have to answer for every careless word and every moment where we don’t represent Him as we should. Let’s live like it matters!

As we finish National Mentoring Month, we will focus this week on why coaching fathers matters. 

1. COACHING FATHERS MATTERS BECAUSE WE REPEAT WHAT WE KNOW.

One of the most common themes we see when coaching fathers who have temporarily lost their children to the “system” is that their fathers weren’t around when they were growing up. For the first decade of a child’s life, Mom and Dad are the most important people in the world. Love, nurture, a sense of belonging and self-worth are formed within a child, whether positive or negative, by what is experienced at home, within the family unit. For many children, self-worth and having a place to belong (family) are distant realities because the people who were supposed to love and care for them effectively vanished. If not for outside intervention, children without committed fathers are more likely to reproduce what they have experienced. If we are to stop generational fatherlessness, we must model fatherhood to those who truly desire to break the cycle.

2. COACHING FATHERS MATTERS BECAUSE CHILDREN BENEFIT IN EVERY WAY.

The stats on fatherlessness are absolutely staggering. Almost every single ill that our society faces today can be tied to father absenteeism. Higher rates of criminal activity, teenage pregnancy, suicide, poor grades, dropout rates, and incarceration all have one single common denominator: there is no father in the home. The opposite statistics are just as true. Children are far more likely to thrive in school when Dads participate in their educational process. Children have a stronger sense of self-worth and belonging when Dads are active in the home. Mental health issues are lessened. Interestingly enough, studies even show that the presence of other males (non-fathers) can be as effective as having a Dad.1 We coach fathers because the empirical data shows that children need good men in their lives.

3. COACHING FATHERS MATTERS BECAUSE FATHERLESSNESS IS EXPENSIVE.

It costs the federal government nearly $40,000 yearly to keep a father incarcerated.2 A 2012 study estimates it costs our communities $210,012 for every child who is taken from the home and placed in foster care.3 Most of the costs are in lost productivity, as both the parents and the child participate in case plans, therapy and treatment, court proceedings, and lost wages. It may seem obvious to those who grew up in traditional, stable families, but just because we know what to do doesn’t mean we can always execute on that knowledge. Many of the costs associated with fatherlessness stem from inefficiencies in the “system,” but according to this famous Dad, the system isn’t the problem: “It starts in the home,” so says Denzel Washington in his interview HERE.

It isn’t hard to connect the dots and see that when Dad steps out on his responsibilities as father, the burden and the consequences of that decision falls on the community. We coach fathers because communities are stronger when Dads are in the picture.

Last week we discussed why discipleship (a.k.a., coaching) matters.

This week we’re talking about how our obedience impacts the lives of fatherless youth and young men.

1. POSITIVE ROLE MODELING

Coaching provides fatherless youth with a positive male role model who can guide them through life’s challenges. Many fatherless individuals lack a male figure to look up to, and a coach can fill this void by modeling biblical attributes such as responsibility (Col. 3:23), resilience (Rom. 5:3-4), and integrity (Job 27:5). Through consistent mentorship, coaches can instill values that positively shape the character of these young men.

2. BUILDING CONFIDENCE AND SELF–WORTH

Fatherless youth often face unique emotional challenges, including a sense of abandonment or lack of self-worth. The personalized attention and encouragement provided by consistent, regular coaching helps overcome the residual effects of abandonment that often lead to an inability to attach to others. This connection between young men and coaches fosters a sense of accomplishment and builds self-worth that leads to healthy masculinity.

3. TAILORED SUPPORT FOR TRAUMA:

Coaching recognizes the specific needs of fatherless individuals who may have experienced trauma related to the absence of a father figure. Unlike generic mentoring, coaching can be tailored to address these traumas. We know the Gospel is the answer, and the Gospel is best caught in meaningful, personal relationships where coaches offer targeted support and strategies for coping with issues such as abandonment, identity struggles, and emotional pain.

COACHING FATHERLESS YOUTH IS NOT AS MUCH ABOUT IMPARTING SKILLS AS IT IS BUILDING A RELATIONSHIP.

When a 17-yr old in a group home tells a coach, “I’ve never had someone in my life to show me what it means to be a man” (which just happened to one of our coaches), that’s when you know the message of biblical masculinity is making an impact.
